List Content
Why are lists defined by job function rather than job title?
Lists are defined by job function rather than job title as this is far more representative of an individual's area of responsibility. (e.g. a Managing Director might also be responsible for purchasing or marketing)
What type of information can I get in your lists?
All lists come with a named contact, job title and company name as standard. You can then select whether you want postal addresses and/or telephone numbers as your preferred method of communication.
Do your lists cover one contact or multiple contacts per site?
Our lists will provide multiple contacts per site where we have them available.
Quality
How up to date is the data?
Our dedicated editorial team update our data daily. This is done in response to research (e.g. new appointment listings in trade press, news stories and company websites) retailer feedback and any mailing returns that we receive from our own internal marketing. In addition to this we complete a major overhaul of all our information as standard to coincide with the publication of the hard copy directory, which publishes every October.
What happens if I get any gone aways/mailing returns from your data?
If you receive any gone aways or mailing returns that are in excess of 2% of the total names provided we will credit the value of these back to you. Alternatively our editorial team can research the gone ways and supply you with the corrected data. All you need to do is send your gone aways to us for verification.

Usage
How many times can I use the data?
The prices posted on our website are based on a one-time use mailing list, however you can increase the usage if you want to do a follow up mailer or telephone call. You can select up to five uses of each communication method and our site will automatically re-calculate your list price.
How do you monitor list usage?
Before a data list is released we insert a number of seed records into the file that act as monitors for how the list is used. These seeds are individuals/companies who are specifically employed to provide evidence/feedback relating to all direct marketing contact that they receive.
What happens if I exceed my agreed number of uses?
If a list is used more times than agreed this is referred to as a misuse. Each identified case of misuse will automatically incur a penalty charge. This penalty charge will incorporate the list cost and administration fees. Penalty charges can vary based on the number of times that a list has been misused and if misuse is a regular occurrence.
Do I have to use the data within a specified time frame?
We recommend that you use our data within 28 days of it being received, however we do understand that this may not be possible depending on your circumstances (e.g. If you have purchased a large list or you have requested multiple uses etc). If your data is used after the 28 day period we will not be responsible for any gone aways/mailing returns that you receive.
Ordering
Is there a limit on the number of lists I can order?
You can order a maximum of 5 lists in one data order
Do I need to supply samples of my intended mailing piece?
In some cases we may request a sample copy of your intended mailing piece or in the case of telephone lists an outline of your campaign brief. This is a standard part of our order approval process. If a sample is requested this must be supplied otherwise data cannot be released.
What is your cancellation policy?
Written notification of your cancellation must be received within 3 days of your invoice date. Cancellation will only approved upon confirmation that the list has not been used and deleted from your system. Cancellations that are received after the 3 day notice period will be subject to an administration charge of £50 + VAT. About Us
What makes your list service better than other list providers?
All of our information is collected first hand, direct from the retail head offices themselves. Each company has a nominated point of contact that is solely responsible for maintaining their entry.
Our editorial team and database managers are second to none, operating under tight controls to ensure that information is clean and accurate.
The Retail Directory is a household name within the industry and having served the market for over 60 years we have established close relationships with many if not all the retailers that we list. The industry regards us a trusted and reliable brand and we constantly review and develop our offerings to meet and exceed this expectation.
Do you have any other list rental products?
We also offer a range of lists for local government contacts from our Municipal Year Book (MYB). These lists are available for rental on www.localgov.co.uk/listrental. We have over 150 senior officer lists (including Town Centre Management, which is featured in The Retail Directory) all of which defined by job function and a further 18 lists covering government related organisations (e.g. Housing associations, health authorities, regional development agencies etc).
