JOHN LEWIS ENJOY PROFITS BOOST

The John Lewis Partnership have announced an encouraging jump in profits of 9.7% for the year ending January 2010.

The pre-tax figure of £27m means that all John Lewis employees will be looking forward to a 15% bonus in their pay packets.

The recession hit John Lewis’ expansion plans hard as they put plans to expand their department store chain on hold until customer confidence returned. Instead they focused on their John Lewis Home concept, opening the first retail-based store in Poole in 2009, with another to follow in Croydon. The format has proved very popular with plans for another 50 in the pipeline.

Charlie Mayfield, chairman of John Lewis Partnership, said; “'This was a year of profound change across the Partnership and the resilience and flexibility of our business model has underpinned a market leading performance. We have continued to invest, innovate and grow, emerging from the recession in a stronger competitive position.”
